A Day in the Life of an International Trader: Ricky’s Journey at B Futurist

Walking into the lively office of B Futurist, you can’t help but feel the vibrant energy and dynamic atmosphere of the trading department. At the heart of this lively scene is Ricky, an international trader whose journey with the company has been nothing short of inspiring. Known for her supportive nature and unwavering dedication, Ricky has been an indispensable part of B Futurist since its early days when the team was just 15 strong.

Today, as the company thrives with over 60 employees, Ricky’s presence continues to be a source of guidance and encouragement for all. Her story is a testament to the power of adaptability, resilience, and the pursuit of growth.

The Leap Of Faith from HR to Trading

Ricky’s path to becoming a trader was not a conventional one. Originally, she joined B Futurist nearly two years ago with the intention of pursuing a career in HR. “I was looking for an internship in HR because I studied HR. I got offers from both B Futurist and Heinz,” she recalls. Despite the allure of a larger company, Ricky was advised by the previous recruiter at B Futurist to join the smaller firm. “You can really take a lot of initiative in a small company, you have a lot of responsibilities,” she was told. This piece of advice resonated with her, and she decided to take the leap.

Initially, Ricky worked in HR, even completing her thesis during her first year. However, as she interacted with colleagues from the trading department, her curiosity grew. “Most of the people I interviewed were from the trading department, and I found myself becoming more interested in what they do,” she says. The decision to switch from HR to trading was not taken lightly, but Ricky’s desire to explore new opportunities and expand her skill set led her to embrace this new challenge. “I realized it’s better to have a background in several things if I want to explore different directions later on,” she explains.

Discovering the World of Trading

The transition to trading was driven by both opportunity and interest. “It was partly the only thing available, but I also liked that trading is quite different from other positions,” Ricky shares. What she found particularly appealing was the direct correlation between effort and reward. “In trading, the better you perform, the more you get out of it,” she notes. This performance-driven environment contrasted sharply with her experience in HR, where recognition and rewards were less tangible.

Ricky’s journey as a trader has been marked by determination and persistence. She recounts a memorable deal with a client who was initially unresponsive. “I called her every week, and finally, just before a trip to Cannes, I secured a meeting,” Ricky says. Despite a rocky start, the meeting eventually led to a successful deal with a significant profit margin. “Being persistent and respectful, even when facing rejection, really paid off,” she reflects.

This resilience is a key trait for any trader, Ricky believes. “Trading is a lot about attitude. You don’t have to have extensive background knowledge, but you need to be persistent and willing to communicate,” she advises. Her story emphasizes the importance of hard work, continuous learning, and the ability to adapt.

The Unique Culture of B Futurist

One of the aspects Ricky appreciates most about B Futurist is the holistic approach to trading. “You do both buying and selling, and you’re involved in every part of the process, from sourcing goods to delivering them to the client,” she explains. This comprehensive involvement provides a deep understanding of the business and enhances the sense of accomplishment when deals are successfully completed.

She also values the company’s commitment to maintaining a cohesive team. “We’re building a new facility where the warehouse and office will be together. It’s important to us to stay as one company,” she says. This integrated approach fosters collaboration and unity, setting B Futurist apart from other trading companies where departments are often siloed.

The company’s flat hierarchy and supportive culture further enhance the working environment. “You can ask for help from anyone, and people are open to assisting you,” Ricky notes. This openness and willingness to support each other create a dynamic and ambitious workplace where employees can thrive.

Embracing Change and Personal Development

Reflecting on her journey, Ricky identifies the importance of speaking up and taking initiative as her main takeaways. “At the beginning, I was just doing what I was told, but now I feel confident expressing my opinions and ideas,” she says. The flat hierarchy at B Futurist encourages this open communication, allowing employees to contribute meaningfully to the company’s growth. “Your opinion is valued here, and that’s something I really appreciate,” she concludes.

Ricky’s journey at B Futurist is a testament to the transformative power of opportunity and the importance of a supportive work environment. From her initial role in HR to becoming a successful international trader, her story highlights the value of adaptability, persistence, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. Her experiences reflect the dynamic and inclusive culture of B Futurist, where every team member is encouraged to grow and succeed. As the company continues to expand, Ricky’s contributions and insights will undoubtedly remain a cornerstone of its ongoing success.
