Behind B Futurist: Transforming a Startup’s HR
When you walk into the office, there’s one person you’re almost guaranteed to see. Whether she’s guiding a new hire through their first week, planning the next company event, or simply offering a friendly smile and a helping hand, she’s always there. As the heart and soul of the HR department, she’s the go-to person who makes everything just a bit easier. Her bubbly and friendly personality makes her a familiar face everyone is happy to see. But how did she become the foundation of the HR team? Let’s dive into Mollie’s journey, the processes she’s built, and her vision for the future.
Overcoming Early Challenges and Growing in a Startup
After finishing her master’s degree, Mollie found herself at a crossroads, searching for that first big step into the professional world. “I came here almost a year ago, right after I graduated from university,” she begins, reflecting on those early days. With a fresh degree in hand, she navigated job applications and internships before landing an opportunity in HR at B Futurist.
She had other options on the table, but something about the startup environment resonated with her. “I chose to come here because it was a startup, and I thought I’d fit well in that kind of environment. I was also interested in the growth opportunities because I didn’t want to just do an internship and then have to find another one afterward,” she explains.
That decision proved pivotal. What started as an internship in August transitioned into a full-time role by January.
Looking back on her first year, it’s clear that the journey has been one of rapid personal and professional growth. “I feel like I can now do my job independently, come up with new ideas, and really understand how all the processes work here,” she says.
But the beginning was not without its challenges. “Initially, when I started as an intern, I had periods where I was working alone, and at first I was scared because I didn’t fully understand how everything worked,” she recalls. Despite those moments of uncertainty, Mollie pushed through. When similar situations arose later on, she felt prepared, calm, and confident, a clear sign of how far she had come in a short amount of time.

Building Structures and Processes
With the company growing at a fast pace, there was an urgent need to introduce clearer structures and processes. “Since our company is relatively small but growing quickly, we need to establish more structure and foundation, which is still developing,” Mollie explains. Her role quickly became central to this mission.
Mollie has been working consistently on setting up standard procedures that were previously missing or in need of refinement. “One of the things I’m proud of, even though it’s been a team effort, is improving some of our processes,” she shares.
She points to recruitment as a key example. What was once a source of frustration lacked documentation and clear structure. Mollie took ownership of streamlining the process. “Now we have thorough documentation and data that we didn’t have before,” she says, noting that these changes have made recruitment and onboarding significantly more efficient.
Her responsibilities extend far beyond hiring. “As part of a small HR team, we handle a wide range of responsibilities,” Mollie explains. From recruitment and administrative tasks such as visa handling and scheduling, to career structure development, her scope has continued to expand.
Performance management is another important focus. Mollie works closely with teams to ensure employees receive specific, regular feedback, helping support growth, clarity, and long-term development across the organization.

From Ad-Hoc to Systematic: Enhancing HR Processes for a Growing Team
One of the standout aspects of Mollie’s role is her passion for shaping the employee experience and nurturing company culture. While she takes pride in the processes she’s helped improve, event planning is where her enthusiasm truly shines.
“It’s satisfying to see the results of your efforts,” she says, recalling initiatives such as a city-wide scavenger hunt and a company boat party. “Seeing everyone enjoy these events makes the hard work worth it.”
Not all of Mollie’s contributions are visible to the entire organization. “While some improvements, like the recruitment process, aren’t visible to everyone, they make a big difference internally,” she explains. Behind the scenes, these changes have strengthened consistency and clarity across the company.
Another key area of impact has been feedback and performance reviews. Mollie focuses on gathering input from across the organization and turning that feedback into actionable improvements. This structured approach ensures that employee voices are heard and reflected in how the company evolves.
When handling unexpected challenges, such as difficult interviews or sensitive employee matters, Mollie takes a thoughtful and measured approach. “I think it all comes with experience,” she says. “There will always be situations you haven’t encountered before, but usually someone else knows more and can offer guidance.”
Her ability to remain calm, listen carefully, and think constructively has helped her navigate complex situations with growing confidence.

The Vision for Future HR Excellence and Team Growth
Looking ahead, Mollie is eager to continue growing in her role, particularly under the guidance of the company’s HR consultant, Nesimi. “We do a lot of training with him, and I’m excited to see which aspects of HR I enjoy the most,” she says. She’s also looking forward to seeing the tangible outcomes of the projects the team has been working on and how those initiatives will shape the company going forward.
As she reflects on her journey so far, it’s clear that her focus extends beyond personal development. Mollie is deeply invested in the growth and success of B Futurist as a whole. “I’m excited to continue growing and contributing to the company’s success,” she says with a smile, embodying the collaborative and people-first spirit of the HR team she has helped build.
In the end, it’s not just about processes or projects. It’s about people. And thanks to Mollie’s dedication, empathy, and drive, B Futurist’s HR department is in very capable hands.
